CBS News Significantly Trims Trump's TV Program Interview, Omitting Boast Regarding Network Compensating The President Large Money

This broadcast network program the long-running news magazine significantly edited an interview with Donald Trump that aired on Sunday evening, representing the initial sit-down with the program in five years.

Trump spoke alongside journalist the CBS anchor over an hour and a half, yet merely about half an hour were broadcast. A complete transcript from the discussion subsequently published, together with an extended digital cut from the interview.

These cuts stand out since, exactly one year prior to Trump's interview on the program at his Mar-a-Lago resort, he had sued the network regarding the editing from another news program interview featuring Kamala Harris, claiming it had been deceptively edited to benefit her chances in the presidential election.

While numerous attorneys largely rejected the legal action calling it baseless and improbable to succeed under the first amendment, CBS reached an agreement with Trump for $16m in July. As part of the agreement, the network committed that it would publish full records from upcoming discussions with candidates.

At the beginning of the broadcast, the correspondent reminded viewers that Paramount resolved Trump’s lawsuit, adding that the resolution did not include any admission or admission of wrongdoing”.

During the interview, in one segment omitted from broadcast, Trump teased the network about the agreement restating his claims toward the broadcaster.

“In fact 60 Minutes gave me a lotta money. You need not include this, since I do not wish to cause you discomfort, and I’m sure you’re not,” the president stated. “However the show had to pay me a large amount because they removed Harris’s response from the segment which was damaging, it was decisive, two nights before the election. They inserted a different response in. They compensated me handsomely because of it. We cannot tolerate false reporting. You’ve gotta have legit news. And I think this is occurring.”

During another un-aired portion of the interview, the president praised the acquisition of the network to the Ellison family and said the broadcaster's new editor-in-chief, the journalist, was a “great new leader”.

Trump admitted he was not acquainted with Weiss, but told O’Donnell: “I hear she is impressive.

“I think you've acquired a great new leader, frankly, that individual that’s leading your whole enterprise, is superb – based on what I've heard,” he said.

The president was especially enthusiastic in complimenting David Ellison and his father, Larry Ellison, the recent purchaser of CBS News’ parent company, Paramount Global, through their company Skydance Media.

“I think a very positive development recently is this show and the change in ownership, CBS under new management,” Trump said. “I believe it’s the greatest thing that’s happened for years toward a transparent and reliable media.”

The correspondent offered no direct reply to the president’s comments about Weiss and the Ellisons.

Among the president's responses which were cut were several comments doubting the integrity of the last election, which he described “had been manipulated and stolen”.

At one point in the interview, in a part omitted from the broadcast, the president attempted to persuade O’Donnell to acknowledge that safety had improved in Washington DC, her place of residence.

“You live here. You know that too,” Trump said, inquiring of the correspondent: “Have you noticed a difference?”
“I think I have been occupied excessively,” O’Donnell responded. “I haven’t been outside often … I get in my car to the studio and return home.”

The president responded “that’s not a fair answer” maintaining that O’Donnell noticed a difference.

The president then implied that the exchange need not be included in the program.

“It is unnecessary to use that one,” he noted. “Don’t worry, it's fine, I do not wish to embarrass her.”
