Consecutive Night of Unrest in the Irish Capital as Protesters Confront Refugee Hotel

For the third straight evening, law enforcement in Ireland have faced a barrage of projectiles and pyrotechnics within the capital city.

A large crowd of demonstrators gathered near the gate of a hotel housing asylum seekers in a western area of the city.

This represents the third night of demonstrations at the location following a reported sexual assault involving a young girl near the hotel in the early hours on Monday.

A man in his twenties, who remains unnamed due to standard procedures in sexual assault proceedings, appeared in court on Tuesday charged in relation to the reported event.

Several detentions took place during the serious unrest on Tuesday night, and the Irish police service pledged a “robust response” if the hostilities persisted.

Between 7pm and 8pm on the next day, hundreds of participants again confronted approximately forty police in uniform.

The first officers were substituted by the public order unit equipped with plastic shields and additional body protection after sustaining hits from various thrown objects.

A number of individuals continued to hurl assorted items at the officers on site.

Vandalism also took place around the nearby transit station, which is adjacent to the road used by the protesters.

Public order officers pushed the crowd further from the hotel by moving forward with their shields.

A mounted unit and a canine team were deployed at the scene, with a air support providing overhead surveillance.

One officer was impacted by pepper spray, and those participating in the chaos also tried to obstruct law enforcement cars using steel barriers.

While Monday night’s protest ended without major issues, a female officer was hurt during Tuesday’s violence and later released from hospital after attention for a injury to her foot.

A police vehicle was also ignited during the previous disturbances in the week.

The police commissioner, who inspected the area after the violence, commented on that day that he was “determined” to see further individuals brought before the courts to answer for their actions.

He described the situation as far from calm and noted, “This was aggression with the purpose to harm the Citywest building and intimidate those within.”

The head of government condemned the acts of hostility, asserting there could be “no excuse” for attacks on officers.

Those gathered were seen waving symbols, chanting anti-immigration slogans, and launching objects.

There were also attempts to advance on the officer formation using horse-drawn carts and off-road motorcycles on Tuesday, and a police helicopter overhead was targeted with beams.
