Thomas Tuchel Questions Wembley Fan Atmosphere Following Emphatic Wales Victory.
The England head coach shared his regret that the Three Lions team did not receive stronger support from the Wembley fans during their commanding 3-0 friendly victory on Thursday evening.
Tuchel was happy to see his squad continue their winning momentum, with strikes from Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Saka inside the initial stages settling the match. But, he was not content with the mood at the national stadium.
“We had one and a half training days to get ready against a well-trained team and we did very well,” the coach remarked. “It could have been 5-0 up at the break. We missed the fourth and fifth goals. It was quiet. There was no any energy back from the crowd. We did everything to win.”
“How much more can you give in 20 minutes? We didn’t let them escape. When you only hear just Wales fans for half an hour, it’s disappointing because the squad warranted more support today.”
“I maintain this statement. There’s nothing more than being 3-0 in a derby. I hoped for a little more support in moments where it is challenging.”
“In the second half, to get behind us, there was a bit too much backing for the opposition. It might have aided us to regain energy, but that’s football and so be it.”
Selection Choices Vindicated by Performance
Apart from potentially starting a dispute among fans, the manager also created controversy by omitting Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. However the move was justified by Rogers impressing again in the attacking midfield role and getting his first international goal.
“He is what he is,” Tuchel explained. “He is a No 10 and he is competing for his spot.”
Wales Manager Hopes for Improvement from Loss
The Wales manager hopes that his team, who host a strong Belgian side in a key World Cup qualifier on next week, learn from their disappointing first-half display.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this game,” Bellamy commented. “I wanted to assess our standing. What are our ambitions? What is our identity? This performance fills me with inspiration.”
Injury Concern for Striker
Ollie Watkins was withdrawn at the break after colliding with a post and may miss out when the national team play Latvia in the Latvian capital in a World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday.
